I think you have a much clearer idea, especially being a parent, you get a much more distinct picture of what life is. As frustrating as that time was for me-and it was very frustrating-I would not change a thing. So yeah, I think having some success later on, maybe in your 30s, is maybe the right move. Like, when you're not famous you can freak out privately and nobody gives a shit. So I think that's why you see a lot of those actors or actresses who are in their 20s, or maybe like in their late teens, these fucking meltdowns, you're like, “Yeah, they're just normal people doing what normal people do but on such an elevated level and every mistake is intensified to such a degree.” So they freak the fuck out. Success doesn't answer any of those questions. 'Cause you're still dealing with all of those things. But probably Jake and I are the closest thing to a married couple."Īnd I feel like if you were successful during that period of time, you might really freak out. I'm sure they thought, “How many years is he going to waste before he decides, ‘Oh, this is not going to work,’ and then what does he do?” It's a scary thing. It wasn't like I was dropping out like, “I'm not sure.” I was like, “I'm gonna try to be an actor.” I think they just, statistically, were like, the odds of that happening are very slim. What'd your parents say when you dropped out? So pissed. So mad. I might as well do what I really want to do.” I had sort of dropped out of college, and I thought, “Well, I have no other options. And I had nothing else to do at that point. and it felt much more tangible out there. So I mean, I acted a little bit in high school but the idea of doing it professionally was just never really an option. I just felt like actors-I watched a lot of SNL, and those guys just seemed like they were superheroes, that that wasn't a reality for anyone, other than people with superhuman strength. Have they ever called you and been like, "What were you doing in that episode?" They're so shocked that I have a job and I'm employed, they don't care what I'm doing.ĭid you act in high school, or while growing up? A little bit, yeah.
